Chicago, Illinois is one of the most classic cities in the United States, and is in the same echelon as New York and Los Angeles as one of the top major metropolitan areas in the country. There is a little bit of something for everyone in Chicago, so whatever suits your fancy, you’ll be sure to find Chicago to be a fruitful vacation destination.

If you’re into sports, you’re in luck, as Chicago features at least one team in every major US Sport: the Cubs and White Sox, the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Blackhawks. Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, is one of the most legendary baseball stadiums in the history of the sport and well worth a visit for hard-core and casual baseball fans alike.

Chicago is known for its food as well, particularly Chicago-style pizza, and there are a number of excellent pizza places in the city serving up some of the best pies in the country (please see our Dining section for more details). The culinary delights in Chicago don’t stop with pizza by a long shot, Chicago is a very multicultural city and features an eclectic landscape sure to delight foodies looking for any kind of cuisine under the sun.

When it comes to live music, it doesn’t get much better than Chicago; from rock to blues to jazz to hip-hop, Chicago is a music capital and is known for its top-notch live music venues. Chicago also has a thriving nightclub scene and gay scene, and a lot of old bars with history and gritty old-school character sure to delight the dive bar enthusiasts among us.

If you are into museums, as you might expect from a city of Chicago’s size and scope, they are abundant in the Windy City. From history to science to art and more, there is a museum to fit the interests of just about anyone visiting Chicago.

The bottom line is that there is no city in the Midwestern US that compares to Chicago when it comes to the depth and breadth of its culture. If you are looking for a city with history, culture, and ample fun to be had, you will not find a better destination in the United States than the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois.
